Fifth Grade Music

Fifth Grade students sing folk songs from a variety of cultures, dance, play games and develop their ability to read, write, improvise and perform music notation using quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes and syncopated and dotted rhythms.  They learn to read music on the staff and develop their reading skills by learning to play the Appalachian Dulcimer. Using these instruments and other tools they begin to explore the concept of harmony and chord progressions. Students continue to develop the ability to sing in tune while accompanying themselves on classroom instruments like drums and xylophones, learning multi-part drum ensembles. They perform in a winter concert held in December and on a Veterans’ Day concert in November.
