MVHS Gaming Club

Essential Information

MVHS Gaming Club Logo, with the warrior bee and gaming dice.
What is Gaming Club?
Gaming Club is a place for "general nerdiness" - and proud of it.  Early during the year, there are different "themes" for each session, focusing on different aspects of gaming culture. In the past, there has been a major focus on tabletop gaming like Dungeons and Dragons, but there's plenty of room for folks who like to play card games, enjoy other social/multiplayer tabletop and board gaming, or just sit back and enjoy some anime.

Who Can Join Gaming Club?
Anyone who attends MVHS (or who attended MVHS and now attends the KCCC) who is interested!  You should be someone who enjoys gaming and associated aspects of the gaming culture, and wanting to connect with others who share that interest.

How Do I Join Gaming Club?
Join the Remind for MVHS Gaming Club - @MVGaming - to receive meeting reminders (and cancellations/changes if needed). Other than that, just show up to any of the sessions! It is all very informal.

When and Where is Gaming Club?
Gaming Club meets after school until 5PM, every other Thursday. By default, it meets in Mr. Peyton's room (221), though we may move into the library during certain sessions, space and schedule permitting, so we can spread out and use the tables with the permission of Mr. Cawrse.

(NOTE: Dates subject to change/cancellation depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.)
  • Thursday, September 7th - the first meeting of the 2023-2024 school year, where we will introduce the club, have a variety of board games available, and allow attendees to decide if they would like to run for "office" to be part of club leadership.
  • Thursday, September 21st - Officer elections and intro to pen-and-paper RPG gaming. We will have premade characters available and conduct one or more simple introductory gaming sessions.
  • Thursday, October 5th
  • Thursday, October 19th
  • Thursday, November 2nd - NO CLUB (No classes due to Parent-Teacher Conferences)
  • Thursday, November 9th - Club re-scheduled to make up for previous cancellation.
  • Thursday, November 16th - Regular club schedule resumes!
  • Thursday, November 30th
  • Thursday, December 14th - Semester 1 Celebration - food and anime (and bring-your-own-games).

What are the Rules of Gaming Club?An elf, an orc, and a human examine a dungeon map to plot their strategy.
Because Gaming Club happens on school property, the rules and guidelines of the MVHS Student Handbook apply, as well as:
  • Respect and treat others as you would expect to be treated.  This extends to your/their property. Bullying will not be tolerated.
  • Respect the space we have been allowed to use.  Leave it as you found it, and if you make a mess, clean it up.
  • Three strikes and you will end up on a "Wanted" poster, and can not return to Gaming Club without permission from Mr. Peyton.

Should I Bring Anything to Gaming Club?
Besides yourself, if you plan on focusing on tabletop gaming (D&D, etc.), you will want to bring:
  • An open mind and a good attitude.
  • A pencil (with a good eraser) and some blank paper.
  • A set of gaming dice (D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20, and Percentile) that you can identify as your own.
  • Other games that you may want to share with the group, provided they are school appropriate. (No "Cards Against Humanity," for example.)
