Congratulations to Mateo Pechon-Elkins on being honored with the prestigious Kiwanis Russell B. Wise Academic Award! This recognition highlights Mateo's outstanding academic achievements and dedication to excellence inside and outside the classroom. The Russell B. Wise Award is presented to a top student at each Knox County High School. Russell Wise was a long-term Kiwanis member who strongly supported high school academic achievement.

MVHS guidance counselor Jackie Wihl described Mateo as "probably the best student" in 39 years, which speaks volumes about Mateo's exceptional qualities and work ethic. "Mateo is an exceptional student. He is exceptional in the classroom and very active outside of the classroom, and he always does everything with a smile!"
