Update About Students and Meal Charges

Mount Vernon Parents and/or Guardians,

The Food Service Department knows that children need fuel to be a successful student. While we understand the need for a student to charge a meal from time to time, it is not preferred. Due to recent issues with excessive meal charges, we have posted the meal charge policy. Please monitor your student's meal account to ensure there are available funds for their meal purchases via PayForIt.net. This does not affect students that are approved for the free and reduced meal program for the 2023-2024 school year.

" Your child may not accumulate more than $10.00 food service meal charges at any given time during the school year. A food service meal charge should be paid on the school day following the charge or as soon as possible. If charges continue to accrue, a notice will be sent home informing parents of the current food service charge situation. If payment is not made, an alternate lunch may be provided for your child temporarily until arrangements are made. Once the $10.00 meal charge limit is reached, the student will receive a snack pack consisting of a vegetable, a protein, and a whole grain, such as celery sticks, peanut butter, and graham crackers. For students with food allergies or intolerances, alternative snack packs will be provided. This arrangement will continue until the account balance is settled below the maximum charge threshold. At the end of the school year, accumulated charges will be carried over to the following school year."

We understand that circumstances can vary, and we encourage you to reach out to your child's school office or the Food Service Director if you have any extenuating circumstances. Additionally, if you believe you may qualify for assistance, we urge you to submit a completed Free and Reduced Meal Form, accessible in the Parent Portal or available as a paper copy upon request. For any further inquiries or concerns, please feel free to contact the food service department, at 740-393-5900 Ext: 5737.
