Fantastic performances at OMEA State Orchestra

GRANVILLE, OHIO (February 29, 2020) - The Mount Vernon High School Symphonic and Concert Orchestras performed at the Ohio Music Education Association State Orchestra Adjudicated Event at Granville High School this weekend. Each orchestra performed onstage for 3 judges and completed a sight-reading component. The Concert Orchestra received an Excellent rating in the Class C Division and the Symphonic Orchestra received a Superior rating in the Class A Division! Congratulations to all of our orchestra students!

Concert Orchestra performed the Allegro Moderato movement from "Brandenburg Concerto No. 5" by Johann Sebastian Bach/Merle J. Isaac, "Courtly Dance from the Danserye" by Tielman Susato/Bob Lipton, and the Prelude and Cakewalk movements from "Serenade for Strings" by Norman Leyden. Symphonic Orchestra performed "Arrowhead" by Doug Spata, "On A Hymn Song By Phillips Bliss" by David R. Holsinger, and "Hungarian Dance No. 5" by Johannes Brahms/Merle J. Isaac.

The Mount Vernon High School Orchestras are directed by Anthony Springer and assisted by Amy Miller and consist of over 80 performers. The orchestras perform regularly throughout the year as well as at OMEA Events. Over the years, many orchestra students have been selected for the OMEA All-State and East-Central Region Orchestras.
