Mount Vernon High School FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) members completed their first service project, making woven pull toys for dogs. The group of students made over 10 toys to donate and extras to take home for their own pets.  Adviser Martha Melick stated this is an easy, no cost project. We use strips from old t-shirts to make the “roping.”  We have a local men’s tennis group that donates their used tennis balls that we also give to the Animal Shelter.  This is at least the fourth time Mount Vernon High School students have provided the toys and tennis balls to the shelter. Students have a soft spot for the dogs at the shelter, and enjoy this project. Many participated in the reading to dogs project as middle school students. FCCLA plans to continue the dog toy project in the future.
