Bumble Bees Preschool
Changes for Next Year

Mount Vernon City Schools (MVCSD) currently operates one preschool classroom at the New Hope Early Education Center.  Three classrooms in the same building are operated by the Knox County Educational Service Center (Knox ESC) and serve Mount Vernon students, as well as students from around the county.  Next year, a few changes are coming to how our preschool will be managed.
MVCSD will retain our one classroom at New Hope, but the operation of this classroom will be managed by Knox ESC.  The Knox County ESC has a long history of successfully operating preschools around the county, and have been awarded the highest 5-Star rating in Ohio's Step Up To Quality program.  Both MVCSD and Knox ESC classrooms use the same curriculum and comply with the same rules governing preschools by the Ohio Department of Education.
Classrooms will be taught by highly qualified, licensed preschool teachers, and each classroom will have a teacher assistant.  No more than 18 students will be placed into each session and so a minimum ratio of 1:9 students will be maintained, with many sessions having an additional special education teacher who will come into the classroom regularly to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
If your child requires special education supports and services, these services will be provided by Knox ESC special education staff.  Both typical and students with disabilities are welcome in any of the four classrooms. We believe these changes will result in our ability to provide a quality preschool experience to more children in a more efficient manner next school year.  If you have any questions or concerns, contact Bonny Buffington, director of PK-5 curriculum at 740-397-7422, extension 6029.
