“Write to be understood. Speak to be heard. Read to grow.”

 --Lawrence Clark Powell

Mrs. Keaton has been teaching English at MVHS since 2013, but previously, she taught at Mount Vernon Middle School after moving to the community in 2008. Before that placement, she worked for Shelby City Schools, North Central State College, Ashland City Schools, and Medina City Schools. She entered the teaching profession in 1990 and currently teaches English 12, Honors English 9, and English 9. In addition to her teaching assignment, Mrs. Keaton advises Key Club alongside Mrs. Kathy White. Since she loves to play in the snow, she also advises students in Boots and Bindings Club (Ski Club). Lastly, she partners with Mr. Ben Sanders at the middle school to advise the Big Sibs mentorship program.

Mrs. Keaton acquired her Bachelor of Arts from The University of Akron and her Master of Education from Ashland University. She is licensed to teach literature, writing, speech/communication, theater, and journalism through her undergraduate degree.  As a result of her Master's degree, she can teach gifted education, K-12.

In June of 2022, Mrs. Keaton chaperoned students to England and Paris, and her Intagram page showcases all the destinations. It was a FABULOUS trip. She plans to take another group of students in June 2024 (36 students currently enrolled!), maintaining the same itinerary but adding Scotland.

While Mrs. Keaton enjoys her profession, she loves spending time with her family. Together, they support the Knox County Fair, vacation on Douglas Lake in Tennessee, ski/snowboard in the Rockies, and play in the sun in Naples, FL. While retirement is a few years away, her plan is simple: combine reading, nature, and coffee as often as possible.
