The Mount Vernon Board Of Education conducted its February meeting at Twin Oak Elementary Commons.  Twin Oak Music Teacher, Laura Ackert gave presentation entitled:  “From Appalachia to Africa,” demonstrating how the use of drums and dulcimers in the music classroom can enhance instruction and bring music to life.  Emily Miller, MVMS Math teacher/Robotics Coach with her students, introduced their robots and demonstrated the abilities of their robots during a competition.  Read More... for video footage of the February Board of Education Meeting.

Flu Season Fight The Flu
As many of you know, the flu is in prime season and we have had a significant number of students testing positive for the Flu. Stadium light pole on the ground after wind storm. Mount Vernon High School Yellow Jacket Stadium Closure
 On Saturday January 11th, 2020 during a strong wind event across both Mount Vernon and the Knox County area, the northeast stadium light pole was toppled over.  Upon inspection by our Supervisor of Maintenance, Rick Shaffer and special inspectors, which were called for evaluation, it has been determined that a second light pole may have sustained damages which could impact the structural integrity of the light pole.  Therefore, we are closing Yellow Jacket Stadium until these issues can be further evaluated and corrected.  Read More... for additional information.

The winter season is upon us. Our district administration, faculty, and staff understand that our decision to open or close schools during inclement weather has a big effect on families. We also understand that our students are better served, both academically and socially, by being in school. Ohio Department of Medicaid Logo Ohio Medicaid School Program Annual Notice
The Mt Vernon City School District has the opportunity to receive  Federal Medicaid dollars through a program called the Ohio Medicaid  School Program (MSP). Through this program, school districts can receive  Medicaid dollars for services such as Speech, Audiology, Physical  Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Psychology, Counseling, and  Social Work services.  Read More... for program details.
